Elderly clients at Apex Day Rehabilitation Centre For Elderly (ADRC) had a fun time on Monday, 9 July 2018 at 10.30am. to 1.00pm. It was our Tele-Match cum Carnival Day!
The Tele-Match cum Carnival is an annual event of ADRC for its clients only. It was held in the Centre and the Multi-purpose Hall.
Each client was given $40 worth of coupon money - $20 to spend for games and another $20 to buy food items, savory snacks, local delights, cakes, and many other food items, etc. at the Carnival.
At the Tele-Match, there were 8 different types of games for elderly to choose to play. The elderly were competitive aiming to accumulated chips to exchange them for prizes. The prizes spurred them on to play the games.
At the Carnival, the elderly were elated to see the wide variety of food ranging from local delights like kon bak pau, nasi-lemak, curry chicken, steamed fish, steamed eggs to curry puffs, fish nuggets, fish balls, steamed yam cake, chee cheong fun, assorted cakes. Many of them had difficulty making their choices to spend within $20 each especially with so many interesting delicious food and snacks in their sight.
The objective of the Tele-Match cum Carnival was to give opportunities to the clients to make choices and to spend within their budget. It was a cognitive therapy for them
Volunteers sponsored many of the food and helped to man the food stalls. Staff also had a great time looking after the clients and enjoying the games and food.
